Queen ordered to rest by doctors after ‘full day yesterday’ – meeting tonight postponed
A statement from Buckingham Palace said: “Afte full day yesterday, Her Majesty has this afternoon accepted doctors’ advice to rest. This means that the Privy Council meeting that had been due to take place this evening will be rearranged.”
The 96-year-old monarch was set to attend a Privy Council meeting on Wednesday evening with the new Prime Minister, Liz Truss, and her new cabinet ministers.
However, following the medics’ orders, she has remained in her Balmoral estate in Scotland where she appointed Ms Truss as the new PM on Tuesday.
The advice to miss the meeting and stay at home is not believed to involve a hospital stay.
The Queen, who has been experiencing ongoing mobility issues, met with the new Prime Minister who would have taken her oath as First Lord of the Treasury.

Buckingham Palace released a statement reading: “The Queen received in audience The Right Honourable Elizabeth Truss MP today and requested her to form a new administration.
“Ms Truss accepted Her Majesty’s offer and kissed hands upon her appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.”
However, following the “full day” of events, the monarch has had to postpone further engagements and rest.
The Queen has had to pull out of several royal engagements this year due to health concerns.
Just last month, more health fears were sparked after she missed her traditional welcome event at Balmoral Castle, where she usually spends the summer months.
Her Majesty was set to attend the annual ceremony on August 9, but the event in Scotland was cancelled last-minute and replaced with a “small, private event” instead.
She would usually, with the exception of the Covid-19 pandemic, greet members of the public at the residence’s gates.
Buckingham Palace didn’t offer an explanation but officials insisted that the private event was “in line with adapting Her Majesty’s schedule for her comfort”.
