A new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 clip reveals the origins of Rocket Raccoon’s name. About a week before it premieres, Marvel Studios is making a last marketing push for the James Gunn-directed trilogy capper. Exclusively released by Collider, a new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 clip reveals how Rocket Raccoon got his name. Watch the footage below:
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s new marketing video also offers the best look Rocket’s childhood friends, Lylla the Otter (voiced by Linda Cardellini), Teefs the Walrus (Asim Chaudhry), and Floor the Rabbit (Mikaela Hoover). The short snippet offers an idea of how emotional the threequel will be.
Gunn will end his MCU stint with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which will also function as the original roster’s swan song. Despite its significant delay, the movie’s story has long been locked, with the filmmaker confirming that it will also reveal the tragic origins of Rocket. So, amid a string of other plotlines in the Marvel blockbuster, including the birth of Adam Warlock and the future of Star-Lord and Gamora’s romance, the foul-mouthed character will be at the center of its narrative.
The first social media reactions to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 have been positive. However, don’t expect it to be just a fun blockbuster. Gunn and the rest of the cast have promised a highly emotional film that includes a big death or two. That’s on top of Rocket’s heartbreaking origins story, which will be integral to the threequel’s overall narrative. Suffice it to say, fans should expect that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be one of the MCU’s more emotional outings.
