Three cheers for the King! Queen Máxima of the Netherlands is a vision in green as King Willem-Alexander and their daughters join her to celebrate King’s Day

Queen Máxima of the Netherlands was typically chic in an olive green gown and statement headpiece as she and her family attended King’s Day celebrations today.

The Dutch royal family were out in full force for the annual festival, which marks the birthday of King Willem-Alexander, this year heading to the town of Emmen in the north east.

The king and queen were joined by their three daughters – Princess Ariane, 17, Princess Amalia, 20, and 18-year-old Princess Alexia, all of whom were in shades of green, blue and orange.

The family walked a route through the town, collecting gifts of flowers and greeting onlookers who had gathered to wish the royal family well on King’s Day.

Máxima was a vision in an olive green dress, which featured a subtle floral design.

She matched her outfit with a bold headpiece of green butterflies, and completed her King’s Day ensemble with a cream cardigan, matching gloves and simple heels.

The queen also wore a pair of pearl drop earrings, and kept her make-up simple.

Her three daughters were equally as chic, with the eldest, and the heir to the Dutch throne, also opting to wear green. Amalia went for a teal hue, also with a floral pattern.

She wore a matching overcoat to brace from the chilly weather, and kept her blonde hair loosely curled and down around her shoulders.

Her sister Alexia wore a white dress with a deep orange overcoat, while the youngest sibling, Ariane, wore a three-piece suit in a similar rust colour.

King Willem-Alexander also dressed to impress in a deep blue suit and yellow tie.

The festivities in the Netherlands celebrate the birthday of the king – who turns 57 today.

Celebrations start the night before as people deck themselves out in orange and hit the streets and canals.

The main party takes place in Amsterdam, while Rotterdam hosts the second biggest celebration. Smaller gatherings take place throughout the country.

Yesterday, Queen Maxima attended the King’s Games in Hoofddorp – where she was a hit with the kids.

The Dutch queen, 52, and her husband King Willem-Alexander were in high spirits as they met with school pupils of KBS Klippeholm and CBS Vesterhave.

The royals received a rousing welcome from the primary school pupils – and they seemed particularly excited to see Máxima who high-fived them in their classrooms.

The mother-of-three was also pictured seated at lunch tables with students as they dined on sandwiches, fruit and water in the school canteen.

Elsewhere the King and Queen stepped outdoors to observe what appeared to be an exciting game of friendly football.

For the event, the Argentine-born royal donned a pair of chocolate brown high-waist culottes, which served to accentuate her shapely figure.

Maxima paired the look with a grey high neck jumper and brown leather boots, while for the outdoors she opted for a long grey overcoat.
