Jamie Foxx Was Shocked Filming One Netflix Movie Stunt, Reveals Director

Director J.J. Perry reveals that Jamie Foxx was shocked by one of the stunts in Day Shift. The horror comedy was released on Netflix back in 2022 and follows Bud Jablonski (Foxx), a pool-cleaner using his seemingly ordinary job as a front to hunt vampires in San Fernando Valley. A relative success upon its debut, Day Shift managed to reach number one on the platform despite mixed reactions from critics. In addition to Foxx, the film stars Dave Franco, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Meagan Good, Karla Souza, and Snoop Dogg.

During a recent Corridor Crew video, Perry explains how one of the more memorable action sequences in Day Shift came together and why Foxx was shocked by a particular stunt. He revealed that while creating the movie’s opening scene, which features a fight between Jablonski and an elderly vampire, Foxx was surprised by how the contortionist’s body was able to bend. Read Perry’s comments regarding one of Day Shift’s notable stunts below:

With the knowledge its director brought on board, a lot of the film’s action sequences are visually memorable. Perry, who had experience working as a stunt coordinator on projects including John Wick: Chapter 2 and F9, previously shared that Day Shift used contortionists to play the vampires and limit the amount of special effects needed. Adding to those comments about shooting in reverse, he noted the amount of time spent on each trick and revealed that most of the vampire fights were shot practically.

The opening sequence of Day Shift establishes the type of gory action that audiences can expect throughout the movie. Another memorable scene is when Jablonski, Seth (Franco), Mike (Steve Howey), and Diran (Scott Adkins) invade a home full of vampires, which ends up featuring a number of creative kills and decapitations. It also includes more examples of contortionists being utilized when a vampire rolls out of an air vent and attacks Seth.

The stunt work in Day Shift stands out, particularly because of the contortionists’ abilities, but also because of how it was choreographed. It will be interesting to see what Perry does next as a director and how he can potentially top the film’s opening fight scene. With Foxx having already discussed the possibility of a Day Shift sequel, there could be more surprising vampire attacks on the way.
