Creed Officially Gets Its Own Anime

This year has seen a fair share of surprising anime announcements, but the announcement of a new anime from Creed 3 star and director Michael B Jordan might be the most unexpected of the year. Early on May 17th, Jordan posted a stylized graphic of Adonis Creed from Creed 3 to Instagram with both Japanese and English captions, causing a stir among fans with what he had to say.

Ahead of the release of Creed 3 to Japanese movie theaters, Michael B. Jordan’s Instagram post confirmed that there will be a Creed anime airing at the end of the movie. This announcement was also backed up by TMS Entertainment, the company that will be directing and writing the anime, with a tweet from their Twitter account. This reveal has caused a buzz among Creed’s international audience, especially as many wonder if the anime will be available to watch outside of Japan. While Creed 3 isn’t the first American franchise to get an anime, as shows such as Rick and Morty have had anime adaptations announced just this year, it might be the most unexpected.

Creed 3 is the 9th movie in the successful Rocky film series, depicting the life of boxer Adonis Creed, played by none other than Michael B. Jordan himself. This movie was Jordan’s first foray into directing, making him both the director and the star of the movie. While most fans weren’t expecting an anime for the franchise, it isn’t surprising that Jordan would jump at the opportunity. After all, he already stated that he had multiple anime influences when writing the fight scenes for Creed 3, including anime like My Hero Academia and the boxing series Hajime no Ippo. The anime will be a true treat for fans of the Rocky series and Japanese media, directed by Yo Moriyama and written by Katsuhiko Manabe and Kensaku Kojima from TMS Entertainment and set to air as an after-credits scene in Japanese theaters.

As Japanese fans rush to buy their tickets to see the movie in theaters, international fans wait and cross their fingers that the anime will be released after the Japanese run for all fans to enjoy. As an anime fan himself, it’s likely that Michael B Jordan will make sure everyone can watch the Creed anime. For now, fans can watch Creed 3 and catch up with the series while they wait for the anime to be released.
