Hocus Pocus 3 possible Mother Witch return has been addressed by Hannah Waddingham. The actor took on the role in the 2022 sequel Hocus Pocus 2, with her mentor character isolated to flashback sequences where she guided the Sanderson sisters (played as adults by Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy) when they were fledgling witches. However, the end of Hocus Pocus 2 implied that Mother Witch was still alive and taking the form of a bird, ready to cause more mayhem in the modern age.
The Hollywood Reporter recently sat down for an interview with Hannah Waddinghan about her new Christmas special. However, the conversation inevitably turned toward the possibility of her return in the sequel Hocus Pocus 3. While she wasn’t able to confirm if her character will be returning at this point in pre-production, she did say, “I feel like there is far more for the Mother Witch to cause magnificent mayhem.” Read her full quote below:
While there is still some question whether Hocus Pocus 3 will feature the return of the Mother Witch character, Waddingham’s eagerness to return to the role could be good news for a reprisal. It seems that the biggest impediment to the star’s return would be her availability, considering that she is an Emmy-winning actor who is committed to various big projects, including The Fall Guy, The Garfield Movie, and Mission: Impossible 8. However, if she loves the role and makes returning to Hocus Pocus a priority, she could be able to make time to do so.
Hocus Pocus 2 also set a precedent by bringing back many performers from the original 1993 movie. This included the trio of stars playing the Sanderson sisters and Doug Jones as the zombified Billy Butcherson. While the movie did not feature any of the cast members who played the kids who squared off against the witches in the original movie, the majority of the adult cast was invited to reprise their roles.
