Rebel Moon Part 2 Images Teases Dark Flashback For Kora In Zack Snyder’s Sequel

New images from Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver tease the upcoming Netflix movie’s intense storyline. The sequel, which was directed by Zack Snyder, will continue the story of the new release, Part One: A Child of Fire. Both titles are part of a continuing science fiction epic following Kora (Sofia Boutella), a former warrior from the corrupt Motherworld’s Imperium Army who is traveling the galaxy to gather a team of elite warriors to fight back against the empire.

Entertainment Weekly has shared a pair of exclusive images from the sequel, more than four months ahead of the official Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver release date. The first image shows Kora in a flashback with the soon-to-be-slaughtered benevolent royal family of the Motherworld, implying that more of her dark backstory will be explored. The other shows Tarak (Staz Nair) and Titus (Djimon Hounsou) hiding behind a wall during what seems to be a major battle with the Imperium. Check out the images below:

The revelation that Kora’s backstory will continue to be explored in the Rebel Moon movies showcases just how important the subtitle The Scargiver will prove to be. Snyder has revealed that the title does indeed refer to Kora herself, but not how it does so. It’s possible the scars she gives could be those she visits upon the royal family or the Motherworld itself, perhaps through an act of betrayal, though the movie may end up revealing that she has given the scars to herself and regrets her past choices.

These images also reveal the malleability of the timeline in the Rebel Moon universe. While the story will be continuing forward as the group of rebels train for battle and eventually wage war against the Imperium forces, the story won’t forget about the backstories of the characters at its center. While some of those stories have already been revealed in the first movie, these images show that there will be more revelations about Kora, in addition to the previously announced exploration of the backstory for Titus.

The ability for Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver to flit back and forth between timelines will prove to be important for the franchise overall. The universe is already rapidly expanding, with a narrative podcast, comic books, and an animated show already in development to explore the events leading into the first movie. Should this approach be a success, a third movie could also be in the offing, meaning the overall timeline will spiderweb out both backward and forward across a variety of media.
