Mary Berry, 89, exudes elegance in a blue dress as she makes a rare appearance with her granddaughter Abby Hunnings at the Derby Festival

Dame Mary Berry cut a stylish figure in a blue dress as she joined her granddaughter Abby Hunnings at the Derby Festival at Epsom on Saturday.

The famed chef, 89, perfectly matched her belted blue dress to her hat and accessorised with pale nude shoes and a nude clutch bag.

She put an arm around Abby who offset her sleeveless white dress with a beautiful pale pink hat with matching flowers.

Abby carried a deep straw handbag, and matched it to her flat shoes and the women posed on the grass.

The annual Derby Festival, known as the Greatest Flat Race in the World, takes place on Friday and Saturday.

Also at the races was Celia Imrie who looked lovely in a grey blazer and a blue hat as she peered over the balcony.

Celia, 71, is known for her roles in The Second Best Marigold Hotel, Mamma Mia! and the Bridget Jones series.

She will reprise her role as Una Alconbury in the fourth and final Bridget Jones film, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, coming out in 2025.

Mary’s granddaughter Abby is the daughter of the former Bake Off star’s second child, Thomas March, who was born in 1968.

She has a further two children with husband Paul Hunnings: Annabel, 52, and her elder brother William who died at the age of 19 in 1989.

Mary has been married to Paul, 92, for almost 60 years. He previously worked for a sherry brand, Harvey’s of Bristol, and sold antique books throughout his career.

Although her mother died at 105, Mary admitted she might not get there as doctors warned her she would be dead in four years if she didn’t start exercising.

The baking legend as since taken up croquet and has switched her meat out for the much-healthier salmon.

Mary told the Mail: ‘My GP told me, “You’ve two options. You could sit in a chair and do no exercise and quite probably be dead in four years, or you can set to, walk (uphill too!) and do everything you can…’

She added: ‘We’ve just taken up croquet. I’ve never played a sport with my husband before because he says I have no ball sense.

‘But we have lessons with a lovely Finnish lady – she is so patient with us and we absolutely love it! So it’s a great joy to play sport together at last.’

Mary was a judge on The Great British Bake Off from 2010 to 2016, leaving when the programme moved from BBC to Channel 4.
